Through its member relationship with Kaiser Permanente, Vizient® was introduced to the Inner City Capital Connections (ICCC) program, which provides executive-level training to business owners in economically distressed areas. In July 2018, Vizient announced an agreement with the ICCC, designed to further enrich its supplier diversity program and further advance the Vizient culture of collaboration.
“The ICCC program is perfectly aligned with the company’s supplier diversity objective to champion inclusion of minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses in members’ supply chains, which serves to accelerate economic growth in their local communities,” said Shaleta Dunn, senior director, supplier diversity for Vizient. Through the ICCC program, Vizient connects its members and their diverse supplier networks to Ivy League executive education and access to capital that allows diverse suppliers to grow and increase their capacity to meet the needs of larger organizations.
Supplier diversity representatives from Vizient joined the ICCC program on 10 of its 11 events across the country last year. The representatives met with diverse suppliers and encouraged member organizations to nominate suppliers for the program. “This is our chance to grow our portfolio of diverse suppliers to meet members needs by engaging new suppliers and identifying if there’s an opportunity to contract with them, knowing that they are growing and scaling up through this program,” Dunn said.
The ICCC events increase awareness and visibility of Vizient — both as an ICCC partner and as a group purchasing organization (GPO). “It’s the perfect time to let diverse suppliers know who we are, what we do and that we have potential contract opportunities waiting for them,” said Dunn. “The health care industry, which includes GPOs, isn’t the easiest for organizations to understand and navigate, but we strive to help them break down barriers and learn how to work with our member organizations and Vizient.”
