Addressing physical and mental health needs throughout Chicago

Vizient® employees are committed to supporting the communities where we live, work and serve. In Chicago, Vizient, together with Sg2®, had the opportunity to meet two very different needs.

First, Vizient worked with the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network on its Medical Response Collaborative (MRC), an initiative that helps address domestic violence in Cook County, which has one of the highest domestic violence rates in the state. Research shows that while health care providers and first responders play a critical role in helping victims access services, they often lack the equipment, staff, space and training to properly help victims. In addition to providing a grant to the MRC project, Vizient is working alongside the organization to help health care professionals identify domestic violence markers and proactively reduce future violence from a health care perspective — before women are forced to seek out shelter.

A second opportunity to help Chicagoans presented itself during Community Day, when Sg2 employees participated in a program called Random Acts of Flowers. The program uses recycled, donated flowers from special events, memorial services, grocery stores and wholesalers to transform would-be trash into meaningful moments for patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities. The Sg2 project resulted in more than 300 bouquet deliveries to health care facilities around the Chicago area in 2018. It was such a hit that employees from both our Chicago and Skokie offices have since donated their own time to the program, continuing to bring smiles to the residents of Chicago.
